The region is teaming with talent. For example, the city of Oxford, less than an hour’s train ride from London, and famed for its centuries old university and centre for science and technology, has an incredible selection of private primary and secondary schools. These provide day and boarding options, including Summer Fields School with 70 acre of playing fields and alma mater of former Prime Minister Harold Macmillan, and Magdalen College School, a co-ed school with some of the top exam results in the country.
An hour’s drive south of Oxford lies the ancient city of Winchester, with its famous namesake secondary school and wide range of well regarded private primary schools. Closer to London is the world famous Eton College, founded in 1440 by King Henry VI, which houses around 1,200 boarding pupils and whose recent graduates include Princes William and Harry as well as Prime Ministers Boris Johnson and David Cameron.
